Not sure what I was thinking when I told my husband we should visit the U.S. Botanic Garden during the holiday season. It was awful. I personally don’t like large crowds. This experience had to take the cake. Large crowd + 6 children under 10 + Grandpa + ppl pushing and shoving in a small space= reminders of why we go downtown infrequently. Before I had a major break down we made it out to freedom and some fresh air. We made our way over to the National Museum of the American Indian. It wasn’t on my list of places to visit downtown but I’m glad we did. As soon as we walked in the doors I knew this was going to be a pleasant experience. This museum really is a hidden gem in the city. They have a great exhibit on the Native American beliefs on Creation and the stars. There are 2 screens on loops showing stories of how the constellations came to be. Another great exhibit is the kids exhibit. It has alot of hands on things for kids to try like rowing, a reading nook, and even a video game set on. Every station teaches something different about the American Indian culture. We didn’t stay long as it was getting close to dinner time and the younger 2 were getting restless. The kids happily enjoyed the trip back to the car via the Metro. For me its a little stressful making sure we don’t lose anyone and making sure everyone gets off at our stop. I would have to call it another stressful yet successful trip to downtown DC.
